Swiss Post is going ever-greener – buying 110 new gas-powered parcel delivery vehicles in a bid to reduce its carbon footprint.
The new gas Fiat Ducato, which Swiss Post is operating with the support of gasmobil Switzerland, produces ten per cent fewer environmentally harmful greenhouse gases compared to conventional diesel engines. The postal operator has 30 of the vehicles already in use – and is currently using 250 low-emission electric scooters for letter delivery.
Reducing the environmental impact is a major issue for Swiss Post – the company has been able to reduce its carbon footprint by 8.5 per cent since 2000. Compared to 2007, it plans to cut its CO2 emissions by ten per cent in the next three years.
