State-owned Latvian postal operator, VAS Latvijas Pasts, is looking to trim operating costs following the news that mail volumes in Latvia have fallen by 20 per cent and parcels by 41 per cent. One cost-reduction measure being considered is performance-related salaries.

The announcement comes a few weeks after the Post said it may reduce its delivery schedule from six days to five.
