The Finnish postal service – part of the Itella group – is providing ‘green’ services to neutralise cardon dioxide emissions caused by deliveries – believed to be the first delivery company in the country to join the climate effort.
Hanna Kaustia, director at Itella, said: “As far as we know, there are no other delivery services or other services where the carbon dioxide emissions would have been neutralised in full on behalf of the client.”
For a few extra cents, a company sending parcels, letters, publications or advertisements can choose a service that neutralises the carbon involved in the delivery and transportation of the products. The green aspect of the transport will appear as an ‘Itella Green’ marking. Carbon-neutral services for consumers will be available next spring, so consumers can also choose whether they send their letters or cards as a standard service or as a carbon-neutral service.
